Other Perspectives

SEE YOURSELF THROUGH THEIR EYES

Most of us are our own worst critics. I certainly am.

Sometimes, I lose track of my greatness. Well, truthfully, sometimes I lose track of all my accomplishments, becoming, and impact altogether and fixate on just the negative.

Which is why I’ve learned not to make any significant decision or changes in an echo chamber of my own thoughts and opinions. Rather, I run my plans and ideas by my peer advisory group or a trusted fellow entrepreneur.

For me, the key is to give more weight to their perspective than my own. (Mind you, this ONLY applies to a very small group of very trusted advisors who have repeatedly demonstrated their belief in me and willingness to speak hard truths that serve me.)

Why do they get more weight? Because their perspective is more objective than mine.

Their perspective is more based on facts and who they have experienced me to be. While my perspective is warped and framed (unconsciously) by limiting beliefs and default thinking that says I should fear success more than failure.

I see the hundred times I failed and embarrassed myself. I see risk of looking dumb again.

They see the hundred times I failed, learned, got up, thought differently, and tried again. They see resilience, dedication, creative problem solving, adaptability, and resolve.

I see the 45 seconds I got in my head and stumbled over my words. I expect people to doubt and judge and reject me.

They see the other 59 minutes of authentically enthusiastic delivery of impactful ideas. They see the connection with the audience and the adaptation of the content so it landed in open minds and catalyzed new thinking.

I find I often like their view better.

I choose to request their perspective and act accordingly!

🌿To your journey and mine… let’s bring other trustworthy perspectives into our view!
